Mesquite ISD’s Vanguard High School (renamed from Choice Career High School) is designed to resemble an office atmosphere rather than the traditional high school look and feel. The unique school will provide teaching and training in the development of young men and women to enter the workforce.
Students will have a choice of a career pathway: Technology, Engineering, Construction Science and Health Sciences. Each of the four pathways will focus on specific career paths, similar to choosing a college major and working towards a degree in a particular field of study. Students will graduate with a portfolio of work, including certifications and acquired skills which they can apply to their future career.
Vanguard High School features distinctive classroom spaces and an abundance of Laboratories to correlate with the academics. There are many hands-on labs such as Dental Labs, Nursing Labs, Pharmacy Technician Lab, Phlebotomy Lab, EMT Labs, Vehicle Repair Shops, Vehicle Body Shops, and Construction Labs. Additional spaces include a commons area and courtyard, outdoor learning areas and a walking trail.
RWB Consulting Engineers provided the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services on this project. We specifically designed the school to facilitate the essential hands-on learning needed for these unique skill sets. Some of the unique design features include:
RWB Consulting Engineers enjoy design challenges, of which this facility had many. But with the unique architectural design, we continue to strive toward excellence in all that we do. Vanguard High School will be Mesquite’s sixth high school in the district, accessible to any student in the area regardless of zoning. The campus is scheduled to open in Summer 2021.
